Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
