Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
