Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
