This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
